Jan Zelezny
The Jan Zelezny Secret
There's a huge amount of discussion and interest regarding how Jan Zelezny was so good at the javelin throw. Many have concluded that he was doing something different. How could one person throw so much further than everyone else despite being essentially not stronger, faster or in some other way dramatically different from their competitors?
The fact is that Zelezny was doing something different. It wasn't that he had found a way to move his hips in a faster manner or bend his arm into a stronger position, it didn't make a difference that he throws out to the right side of the sector and it certainly didn't matter that he was so fast on the runway.
All of these traits can be seen as different however they cannot be seen as unique or independent to Zelezny. That being said, there was one single thing that he was doing that made him completely unique.
The one thing that Jan Zelezny was doing differently than every other javelin thrower to date was throwing perfectly. So many people assume that he had a trick that no one had discovered or that they shouldn't follow his technique because he was doing something special and foreign and that it was a separate unknown technique that you couldn't figure out so why bother.
Many still believe that Zelezny has figured out a completely different way to throw the javelin whereas in reality, all he is doing is throwing perfectly. The big secret is that his throwing has the least number of faults or more accurately when he's throwing his best, no faults at all.
So next time you're debating watching his technique because it may not transfer to you, take comfort in the fact that it's the only technique you should hope does.
